PV-2-HEAT to Mongolia

This funded development project is helping Mongolia to reduce extreme air pollution in Ulaanbaatar. The aim of the project is to adapt PV-2-Heat systems to the harsh climatic conditions, integrate them into the electricity grid and test them as pilot installations in various types of buildings.

Tasks carried out

  • In the initial sub-projects, various systems were designed and components were developed and adapted.
  • Following the selection of suitable pilot buildings, detailed planning and system integration took place in close consultation with the other project partners, as well as with the authorities, research partners and local businesses in Mongolia.
  • We actively supported the installation and commissioning of a total of nine demonstrators in Mongolia and set up a control and monitoring system.
  • The knowledge transfer initiative was rounded off with events and training sessions in Mongolia.

Solutions for PV2Heat systems

PV2Heat systems have become established for utilising surplus energy from photovoltaic installations to maximise self-consumption.

Depending on the amount of surplus energy, PV energy is continuously converted into heat and stored in buffer and domestic hot water tanks.

Tasks carried out

  • We launched the project on our own initiative, as we saw significant market potential here but no technically acceptable solution
  • Market research into the state of the art and market potential
  • Development of electrical and hydraulic designs
  • Application for intellectual property rights for the chosen solution
  • Support with the design and implementation of the station and control system
  • Support with sales and after-sales services

dynOpt-En – Energy manager for the supply- and demand-driven activation of energy sources

The main objective of the project is to develop and test a dynamic optimisation module for the supply and demand-driven integration of energy sources.

To monitor and optimise heat generation in buildings and neighbourhoods, the software continuously calculates forecasts based on meter data available for energy billing, combined with weather forecasts and other sensor data (e.g. boiler temperature). These forecasts are used to coordinate the operating times of various heat generators – such as gas boilers, heat pumps and combined heat and power (CHP) units, possibly combined with photovoltaic or solar thermal systems – in a way that is optimised for either cost or CO₂ emissions.

Tasks carried out

  • As a subcontractor, we undertook work packages in the field of systems engineering and the development of a demonstrator.
  • Research into the heat generator’s data interfaces
  • Creation of pictograms and the schematic architecture
  • Implementation of a demonstration system with measurement technology and interfaces in our office building

FlexBlue – bringing flexibility to refrigeration systems

The funded FlexBlue project aims to bring together all relevant stakeholders in the flexibility value chain within the refrigeration sector to jointly develop high-performance, application-oriented solutions for making refrigeration supply systems more flexible.

As part of the project, two demonstrators will be set up in a real-world operating environment to demonstrate the technical feasibility, as well as the economic and environmental viability, of partially decarbonised and flexibly controllable refrigeration supply systems.

Operational interfaces will be clarified in order to provide transparency and recommendations for the planning, commissioning and operation of partially decarbonised and flexible refrigeration supply systems.

In addition, knowledge will be transferred and stakeholders engaged to convert existing refrigeration supply systems with a view to decarbonisation and increased flexibility, or to optimise new systems accordingly.
